Observations after first 1K miles - notice any of these?
Hi Everyone,
2011 3.2 Premium plus black on black/s-line with Nav. Here are some things I've noticed after the first 1k miles. Brought the car home about a month ago. Have you noticed any of these?
- Upon starting the car (warm start), even when pressing in the key for just a sec I hear a strange click sound right before the car starts (similar to keeping the key twisted for a too long when starting a car with a traditional starter).
- My first start in the morning, from about 0 to 5 mph I hear a strange click sound from the dash area (right after I hear what I think is the ABS system initialize).
- An odd tapping, crackling, ticking sound from the rear of the car when going through a garage at low speeds. I know exhausts typically make sounds from expansion due to heat. The Q5's (at least mine) seems to make more noise than most.

No experience of Q5 but Q7 (especially early models) climate control stepper motors or baffles can make a clicking noise after startup for a few seconds as they reset or adjust for current conditions.
Its generally behind the centre of the dash somewhere but sound can vary as there is more than one operation.

There are a lot of different computer/electronic components that "come to life" and/or test themselves as you unlock your car, start your car and start driving your car. These are all normal. I kinda like it. As I unlock my car in the morning, I can hear my car come to life, so to speak.

I think the click you hear going from 0-5 mph is the auto-lock feature. Turn it off on your MMI to see if it goes away. Note of caution, even after you've turned off the auto-lock, you'll still hear a very faint click as if the door wants to lock, but has been prevented from doing-so.
