Hey just wanted to ask which rating of octane should I be using for my petrol Audi TT 2010 tfsi ? ... or is there no difference, as recently I learnt that apparently some engine may not perform well with high octane fuel or in some case may not perform well with low ... cheers

" fuel filler flap " and where would I find this flap ? Hah sorry couldn't help myself.
Audis petrol engines are capable of optimising performance of higher octane fuels. But if you run lower grades you'll be just fine and may not even notice the difference in performance and mileage.Main concern is to make sure you're running good quality clean fuel and replacing your filters as prescribed.

As Murray said. If you have a FLEX FUEL ENGINE, identified as such in the manual and the window sticker, the computer is designed to adjust and compensate for a wide variety of fuels. And if you burn "petrol" you're probably in the UK where octane ratings are not necessarily the same as they are in the US.(G)
What is of more concern with engines today is how much detergent and additives are in the fuel, i.e. the "Top Tier" fuel group in the US are rated to provide the least deposits in the engine.
Octane? Seriously, find the lowest octane you can. Burn 2-3 tanks of it, put on some highway miles where you can objectively note the mileage. Do it again with 2-3 tanks of what you think might be a better brand or higher octane. Now you can objectively compare to see if there is any difference at all.
If you have a heavy foot and engage the turbochargers a lot, higher octane may be of some benefit to you. If you don't need that last 12hp from the engine? Then the computer will do quite nicely with burning the low octane stuff, which actually explodes more violently and provides more power in normal use.
