I agree with OP, i've always changed oil + filter at shorter intervals than what the car makers recommend, I do it on my own every 5k miles and save a lot of money in labor but do not try to save on the oil + filter, I only use what Audi recommends. Even I know that this prolongs the life of the engine. Thanks for the info HaveBullDogWillTravel and to everyone else, it's always good to learn.
