Default Oil change at 10k?

Just wondering who's doing oil changes at 10,000 miles. or waiting for the 15,000 miles? Seems kinda crazy to go 10k between oil changes. I own the Q5 and looking to do whats best.
Vote above if you care to share.
Thanks.

It is crazy to wait for 10K. Remember Audi use to say do the timing belt changes at 90K miles - guess what - lots of blown engines.

I do mine every six months or 5K miles - I use Mobil 1 0-40wt. I actually did the RS oil change at 2K miles because of the wear of a new engine.

Would you trust any place besides the Audi dealer to do it for you?

Same mileage and same oil for me too. I recently posted my oil analysis results here after 5000 miles...the results weren't bad but definitely made me think that the 5K change is a good idea. FWIW the oil change is very easy. The hardest part was R&R of the gravel guard.

I think most anyone could do it provided they are told to use the correct type(Audi spec) synthetic oil and they know to torque the oil drain plug and fiter cap. Additionally, the O-rings on the cap and filter holder should be replaced. The crush washer for the drain plug doesn't always need replacing but a good idea to replace after 2-3 changes. For now I'll only let the dealer work on my car or I'll do it myself.

I'm in the same boat. I had my 5k service done almost a year ago. My computer is telling me change oil in 14 days or 4800 miles. i have 10,200. I'm going on a drive down to Orlando in the next week so round trip thats going to be almost 2,500 miles. So when i get back i'll have close to 13k miles and it would be a year. I debated wheter or not to change before or after. I'm going with after because i dont want those 2,500 miles on fresh oil sitting. I miss the days of changing my own oil...

I'll be waiting.

Synthetic oils last longer. Its the filter that has typically been the weak point requiring earlier changes. If the factory is recommending an oil change every 10k, then obviously they have improved the filter.

Audi clearly designs the vehicles and intends for the service intervals to be every 10K miles starting with the 5K service. That was how my 2006 A4 was set up, and my boss' 2009 A4 as well.

The idea of an oil/filter change before that interval isn't entirely unreasonable, but how smart are the dealers about handling the car's built-in service timing circuitry? With my Acura RDX the dealer has been very flaky and inconsistent about resetting or not resetting the service internal computer and I've probably had a couple more oil changes than I've needed over the life of the vehicle.

If the oil is true synthetic then I think 10K should be ok. I have read claims from companies like Amsoil that say you can go 25K on their top notch synthetic. Don't know about that though. Changing the filter between oil changes does sound like a good idea and make sense. My only question is does Audi truly run full synthetic. When I looked at my receipt from my 5K oil change it said synthetic blend, leading me to believe its a blend of synthetic and normal.
