Default Oil Consumption Test/Options?

I have a 2013 3.0 Q5. I put on a lot of miles. After my 5K service, I developed an oil leak. Turns out a mechanic at the dealership damaged an O-ring during the oil change, so they said. I just had a 15K service about two weeks ago and since took two long trips, one out-of-state for a mini-vacation. On my way back from this out-of-state trip, and about 1.8K miles since the oil change, I get a low oil warning light about 30 miles from my home. "Add a quart of oil, OK to drive to next dealer." Went to the dealer this morning and they set me up for an oil consumption test next week, after topping it off. I guess they did not find a new leak. What happens in an oil consumption test? If the engine is proven to have an oil consumption problem, and not a faulty sensor, what are my options? This is very disconcerting.

They will document the amount of oil consumption. If it exceeds certain parameters (established by the factory), they will look into the cause. I hope it is a leak as other reasons could be more dire. This is one example of why I would like an real oil dipstick. Could be a errant sensor.

Good luck.
