Default Ouch...$675 lighter today

92,000 on my 2010 Q5, and I guess living on borrowed time because it has been trouble free for it's whole life, save for DRLs and the plastic water pump issues. The air bag light came on and my dealer says the driver's seat belt tensioner needs replacement, and it's not a recall subject. I didn't see any posts about this and am just wondering. Thanks

Check if there is a seat belt warranty. I had the same issue on my acura mdx and it was covered by the lifetime seat belt warranty.

The airbag light came on in my Honda Ridgeline at around 140k miles. My seat belt would not come out of the slot because it would lock up everytime I pulled it. I was told the seat belt tensioner was replaced and it was covered under lifetime warranty. The service tech told me all cars have a lifetime warranty on seatbelts.

I just read (again) my 2013 Audi warranty booklet cover to cover. Unfortunately, while other manufacturers may have an extended warranty on seat belts, there is nothing mentioned anywhere by Audi that would provide coverage for them beyond the original manufacturer's limited warranty, at least in the U.S.

Default +1; for OP, consider the connector

From my 35 years of new and used Audi's, I have never come across a special warranty from them covering seat belts.

For OP, I'm guessing this must have to do with the pyrotechnic feature of the belt that would tighten it in an accident. The rest of the belt would just be mechanical and not monitored electronically. From other airbag light experience on various Audis, I would simply check the connector involved for the relevant part before replacing it. Not uncommon to just have a bit of corrosion at a small terminal plug and simple unplugging and replugging of the connector can fix the error. As usual, disconnect the battery before fooling with any part of this system if you go DIY.

Default Thanks to all

For better or worse, it's at the dealer. Incidentally, I have a new A4 loaner and was on the highway with it today; kind of twitchy, the Q5 is way more stable at speed and in holding the line.

I guess you're right. I searched google and found the federal law regarding lifetime seatbelt warranties is a myth. Apparently only Honda and Acura cover their seatbelts for life for their entire model lineup.
