While I'm waiting for the cooling pump recall, I need to refresh the additives in my coolant anyway. The ph is at 7, it should be closer to 9, and apparently no one makes additive packages that are known to be correct in a VWG product. The coolant base itself is still good, sg in excess of 1.40.
So, I plan to waste a gallon or two of the coolant if I can find the drain plug, otherwise I'll suck out the reservoir and add concentrate alone to it. Then after it has circulated a few days, recheck the specific gravity and add distilled water if and as necessary. (I'm more concerned with replenishing the consumed additives, than having a 50-50 blend. Corrosion being more of a concern than boiling and freezing points right now.)
Anyone have any feelings on whether Pentofrost E or the VWG "Antigel" is a better product? I think the VWG part is the factory spec'd coolant in our cars.
Supposedly in another two weeks they'll start mailing out the top-secret plans for the November recall repairs. Not sure I feel like holding my breath.
