A Macan was the only other reasonable option but I was not about to drop $75-90k on an optioned porsche. Now I've put 20" Michelin PSS on for summer and the fun factor has definitely increased.

Enjoy your SQ5!
Another M3 convert! (I also had a 2008 E90 before the E92.) Yeah the SQ5 isn't angry-fast like the M, but I'm plenty happy with the blend of perf/luxury/practicality so far. Looking forward to getting past break-in and opening 'er up.

I'm still unclear on the base Macan value prop. I'm sure the handling will be superior to the SQ5, but less power, equivalent luxury, and less practicality for $15-30K more seems dubious. That said I have no doubt they'll sell a gazillion.

I briefly considered the SQ5 to replace my 2010 Q5, but I am leaning towards the Macan. Better handling, better steering, and options like the air suspension do it for me. But the options I like cause the price to skyrocket past 70k...I may wait a year and see what the verdict is on both cars after they've been out in the wild a bit.

I just dropped the 40% down payment on mine today...got to wait until July/Aug for delivery though. Down here the cost was US$87.5k (70k for the car and almost 18k for the extras I just HAD to put in!!). Can't wait!!! I actually switched color at last moment going from Ibis to Glacier...

I'm sure you're right about the chassis, and the air suspension is sweet. Out of curiosity I just spec'd a Macan S on porsche.com with an equipment level equivalent to my SQ5, plus air suspension, and it came to ~$74K (I paid ~$58K). Will have to be some extremely convincing chassis superiority to give up 14hp, 11 cu ft of trunk space, but pay $16K more.
