Interesting thread. I complained to the dealer about my 2014 Q5 TDI steering being way too heavy on the interstate. Causes arm soreness after just a few hours. Lead service tech said it's programmed to remove all power assist at highway speeds and "there's nothing that can be done". At least mine tracks straight, but heavy steering seems to be the price we pay. I'm hoping enough people complain so that Audi takes the time to do a proper software update. Not holding my breath, but time will tell. Until then, guess it's time to go pump some iron...

What build dates does this apply to for the Q5?

Odd. We have Drive Select on our '13 3.0T and the steering has been great. Nice and light in "Auto" and noticeably more heavy and quick in "Dynamic". No issues with tracking, etc.

But when the car was at the dealer just a week ago, they did do a steering update. But the tech said that it was to rectify a potential issue under severe cold weather. Not an issue where we live. I see zero difference in the steering since. Which is good.

All Audis with electric steering. Does not apply to those with hydraulic systems.
So 2013 for the Q5?

Did they mention the update when they wrote up your service order? Just curious. My steering is fine as is and I don't think I'd be too eager to have the update done if it's not needed and I'm sure Id forget to tell them not to do it the next time I'm in for service.

I can find say my Q5 steers better than my wife's Prius on the highway.
My commute is similar. I am excited to hear this.

You think a Prius is bad? Try a Corolla! You can't go in a straight line to save your life. It's slightly better on the 2014.

As I've said, if the Q5 steers like the A5, I'll be much happier. If it steered like the 2012 or older, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I really like my Q5 but the steering has been annoying. SIX DAYS and counting.

Yes, they immediately mentioned the steering update when I brought it in for service. I had a good feeling about that because I did experience the wandering when driving straight, and felt in my guts it could be better. The update took care of that issue, and it is quite noticeably stiffer and sportier now. As for fatigue on long drives, I don't know yet. I'll have more to say after putting on some more miles.

Of course. They mentioned that was the one TSB that showed for our VIN. Even though it sounded like it was only a fix for weather we're sure to never see in southern California, I had no problem with them going ahead and performing the update. Like I said, zero discernible affect on the car.

I've driven 1000+ km since the update and all is good. The steering has been direct with no off-centre vagueness nor notchy feeling.

Each time I read something like this I get more excited. I am scheduled for the 24th. I have the 3.0 as well so I am happy to hear from someone with the same car. I have a six hour round trip drive the weekend following. I am glad I won't be fussing with the wheel so much anymore.
