I looked at Q5 today while my Allroad was being serviced. A nice vehicle but I really want that 3.0 TDI engine. Maybe next year?

Hey Guys...love this discussion. I had my S4 in for service and was given a Q5 w/ the 2.0, 8 sp tranny. SWEET drive-train for sure. I would seriously consider one of these but would also want the Prestige package w/ the 2.0. Every car I drive w/ that engine blows me away.

Here's a little fuel for the fire on this topic...The 2011 Ford Explorer has a 3.5 liter as it's base engine. And in a few months it's extra cost engine (premium engine) offering will be it's 2.0 EcoBoost. Direct Fuel Injection, Turbo, etc. And you will be able to get it in their highest trim package...FWD only...but still. They see the higher MPG (the main reason FWD offering only) as something people will be willing to pay for.

I'm not trying to sell Explorers here....I'm just saying I believe in the 3.2 supply problem theory and I bet in 2012 the 3.2 will not be offered...just a guess on that one.

In northern europe it's all about downsizing. In my country (Norway) it's insainly expensive to buy cars with big engines. 80% of the market are diesel engines and I would guess that 95% of the Q5's sold here are 2.0TDI in either 143hp or 170hp. The government is so focused on CO2 emmissions, that a family car with a large engine is only for wealthy people. Here are some examples:
Q5 2.0tdi 143hp - price:$80'
Q5 3.0tdi 240hp - price:$130'
Q5 3.2 270hp - price:$150'
These are prices without options. That also means that there are no premium packages, all options are added one by one. You can order a 2.0TDI with everything if you like. Only problem is that options are expensive also.
I just ordered a new Q5 2.0tdi 143hp from England and will import it myself. I loose some warranty, but I will save almost $16' in total. And I will actually pay more in import taxes than for the price of the car.

Just to have some more to compare about:
Average sallary for a norwegian: $70'
Big Mac menu on McD: $13
1 litre of CocaCola: $3

A Q5 3.2 270hp costs 900.000 NOK which is about $150.000 with no options or packages included.

.

And i thought prices in the UK were expensive!!

I have priced one like mine, only to discover it would cost me £93,000 in Norway (It's £35,000 in the UK) and (£28,000 in the US)!!

Wow somthing seems amiss here. For $150k I could have bought 3 of the Q5 presige 3.2 s-line with everything, the one I now own!
I may ship mine over for trade in! lol
I bet Audi loves selling cars in Norway

I bet Audi doesn't make more on their vehicles sold in Norway. The huge difference in price probably has more to do with taxes. Not uncommon to have cars taxed 100-200% or more in some countries.
