Yeah, I would definitely get the M1 5W-30 outta there. With it's low Energy Conservng High Temp High Shear, it would probably shear to a 20 grade pretty quickly.
Actually, Amsoil does not meet any of the specs listed. It's a very good oil, and may meet the specs if Amsoil submitted them, but it actually states that it is recommended in vehicles requiring the specs but doesn't claim to meet them.

None taken. Put it this way - Amsoil has not submitted their oil to the ACEA for A3 certification and has not submitted it to VW for VW502 certification. That's why they're not on the list in the link above. Just ask Amsoil.

I think you make a great observation. There are many great oils out there were the manufacturers have just not taken the time to submit to ACEA or VW for their certification so it is up to the DIYer whether or not to use oil that is not on the "approved" list. With that in mind I think I'll risk sticking with my "non-approved" Mobil 1 5W/30, just don't tell anyone. BTW, I put regular gas in the Q5 once, but don't tell anyone about that either

How thoughtful. I just did oil change #2 on the Q5 (20,070 miles) and when I opened up the box for my new audi oil filter I found that they had added a thin plastic cap to the screw in side to protect the gasket but to also reuse on your old filter to keep it from dripping any oil when you go to throw it out. Very nice.

This thread is great.The Q has a little over 300 miles and I will be changing the oil at the 1200-1500 mile mark with the mobil one 0-40 oil. Also, I will be using a Mann filter (OEM for VW/Audi). I also just installed a dip stick. The stick and MMI concure, "full". At least the Audi has a dip stick tube. Our BMW did not. Thanks for the thread.

Also I wouldn't recommend changing the oil until 5000 to make sure your rings seal properly.

Now there is an interesting Mod. You are saying the tub is already on my 2.0T? It is just plugged up? What did you have to do to install the traditional stick? Thanks

Another oil recommendation...
