The rumor is that Q5 and most likely SQ5 will be completely redesigned for the model yer 2015 the question is how to justify buying current year model? So far, I am just not a fan of that new design but other than one picture, I know nithing about the new features. On the other hand we can probably expect weaker engines as the fuel economy has to go up every year. But then they could compensate for that by using lighter materials. But lighter is not always better either. Ayway, how do you guys answer that question to yourselves?

For me, I was deciding between 2013 and 2014. Got 2014 and I'm not going to wait even longer for the 2015... which is full of unknowns currently.

I hope it doesn't bring some AMAZING new features though, as I might be a TAD jealous...

New redesign is not due until My17 .. Sometime in 2016 physical year when the mexico plant opens up. So its a 2 year wait minimum to get it and it maybe even longer..

I waited for the TDi and after test driving it.. It was worth the wait. But the design is starting to show its age..

I really hope that the new gen Q5 is lighter than the current. It should loose a few pounds.

With the new gen coming from a brand new factory, I'd be inclined to wait one or two model years for any bugs to get worked out.

So for me, I'd be more comfortable with the tried and true 2014. Just IMO of course.

Lots of opinions on this subject. I went for the 2014 as it was known and I two was concerned about new plant reliability. Next car will no doubt be lighter with improved tech. No guarantee that it will be better. Moreover, by all accounts the car is still at the top of the heap.

It will be made in Mexico for what it's worth.....

I like to buy German cars made in Germany or at least here in the US ...( we have a 2013 Passat TDI as well, made in Tennessee) ......

At least in case of a collision with another car it is usually better to be heavier that that car. Just physics.

The lighter materials implemented into vehicles today are usually much stronger than the ones they replace. Weight savings play significant role in increased performance, fuel economy, handling and tire wear while making the vehicle just as safe if not safer. If you hit a semi head-on, it won't matter if your car weighs 4500 or 4000 pounds.

Been going through different sources on the internet and all I've found so far makes me think that this and maybe the next year models could be the best ever. Eeryone says that the expectation for the new model to drop about 200lbs which i s not mich. The other thing is that they are saying the new model may get a drop in power to like 320hp and that is starting to make sense to me. As they will introduce Macan next year and that being almost a copy of q5 with top engine in about 370hp, it does make sense for Audi to lower the q5 output to not affect Macan sales. Does that make any sense?
And yes, I am trying to talk myself into buying an sq5 like now.
