Did anyone find a good chain brand to fit? The Audi ones must be gold plated. I just want a set for the rear if the chain police are checking.

You should get a set of good all seasons then - that are M+S rated. Then you would not have to worry about it

Oh I will have the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R SUV tires, the best. However at a chain checkpoint you HAVE to have chains, or get the ticket.

With winter tires, I just carried leftover chains I found from my garage, doesn't fit to Q5 but at least I had chains. So far all they have checked is real winter tire and AWD combination.

I found ultra slim cables that might fit to front too but I need to test them this winter. If doesn't fit the at least those will work on back.

I think this year I'm gonna spring for some winter tires. Any suggestions? I was looking at the Michelin Latitude Alpin.

I'm one of the few who lived most Northern, near by Arctic Circle and beyond, so here is the order...

1) Nokian Hakkapeliitta (studded or unstudded)

2) Either Bridgestone Blizzak or Michelin X-Ice

3) The rest copycats......

I'm focusing ONLY to real winter tires that have to be changed to summers when gets warm enough.

I have used most of the brands, Nokian several models, Bridgestone Blizzaks, Michelin X-Ice, Continental, Hankook and few other bing-bong brands and I will stick with Hakkapeliitta / Blizzak / X-ice. I was even crazy enough to try "performace all-seasons" and all I can say is that those are worthless junk, and only good is Nokian WR like everyone who have used those say that they will not buy anything else anymore.

got some 19" chains at the wallmart at the BearMt foothill, just to have them in my car.
usually get waved thru at the checkpoints and cruize up with no problemos on my stock allweathers, but not that one time when they got 6feet of snow overnight, they made me put my chains on at the backroad through apple-valley which was the only one open due to slides on the other two access roads. thats where I found out they would not fit on the front, so ended up putting them on the rear. dont think I would have really needed them, but police would not budge and they made ALL cars put chains on that day. traffic was a mess anyways, took me 5hrs to get to Bear, crazy! still kinda worth it, handful of epic powruns (epic for Bear..) at sunset.
hope not to have to get my chains out again though, sux, especially because they are the drive-in ones. I prefer the euro-ringchains, Im much more used throwing those on.
back in Europe I for sure rocked wintertires thru the wintermonths, made alot of sense. but here in SoCal, I live at the beach, and wintertires just do not seem to make any sense at all. They probably get shred to pieces in 1 winter with the temps out here, just for those occasional moments you might need them. my 2cts
