Q5 gas mileage computer
I now have 6000 miles on my Q5 with 2.0T engine and have noticed what appears to be a rather large disparity between what the computer reports for gas mileage and what I calulate using the gas pumped/mileage method.
The car computer indicates I am getting between 26 and 29 MPG on the freeway, however when I check at the fill up mileage is up to 4 MPG less.
Anyone else experiencing a wildly over-optimistic computer?

Very common, Russ. If you find someone with the VCDS tool, they can fine-tune the reading for you. I've got mine tweaked so it's typically +/- .3 mpg around the city. It still reads too high on long trips but I have it set to what I believe is my best scenario.
IIRC, I moved my setting from "100" up to "109" and that puts me in the ball park.

There are SO many variables that I take the indicated mpg as just a 'suggestion'
Many mfg's mpg calcs are usually optimistic !
(is that a sales technique for the test drive ?!? I wonder ?!?)
Also, between mfg's, some use different ways to calculate...
some use injector cycles, some use fuel metering, some use tire rotation, some have just guesstimates...

For anyone with a VAG cable, there are instructions on the internet how to adjust the equation used to calculate the MPG by the car, so it will reflect what one gets through actual calculation.
