And this reviewer said steering was stiff, particularly at low speeds, even though other reviewers seem to suggest it is just like an A4

Finally, the edmunds review says this about steering:
The steering, in true Audi form, is an extreme example of speed-proportional power assist. In parking lots (regardless of Drive Select), the wheel can be twirled around with the force of a baby's finger. When driven aggressively (especially in Dynamic mode), it weights up well, being tighter on center and exhibiting more feedback. Between those two speeds, it can be difficult to tell when that weighting will assert itself. We started calling it random-assist power steering. Slow down for a turn into a parking lot, expect loosey-goosey effort and you'll get stiff-armed instead. The other way around can lead to steering more than is needed — more irritating than dangerous.
So basically, I give up.

I would agree as well on the steering assist being a bit random, though it wouldn't tighten up to the point where I'd need 2 hands to turn - just noticeably heavier.

OtisNYC,
The Audi Brooklyn service has stepped up a lot since its acquisition by Open Road. It was previously really bad when under Life Quality. They now have new A4's and Q5's as loaners and service advisors follow up on time ... If you end up going there, make sure you deal with Wesley. The other guy is eh...

Interesting. Even though they were in the same model year, a couple of Google searches suggest that my 09 A5 did have servotronic. So then this uber heavy steering is normal after all?
Still seems odd. I wish i had another 09 here to compare it with... I still may bring it to the dealer to see if they can have a look and suggest something. Anyone have a "preferred" service department in the NYC/LI area?

Actually, at least this article suggests that it always has servotronic...

Mine is an early 09 and in the yeaer and a half that I have the 09, I have had a few Audi loaners - Q7, A4 and A6 and all were much "easier" to turn at low speeds - not that my "harder to turn" Q7 is a problem, but a totally different steering than the others.
