Q5 sudden stopping?
#11
I have a 2011 A4 Avant with the 8-speed and I have noticed this as well. I have 6000 Kilometers on it as it still does it. I am assuming that it is just down-shifting, when I am in manual mode and shift down when nearing traffic lights, the braking sensation is identical.

Just took delivery of a 2011 2.0T PP last week. The 2-1 downshift does bug me, as it is uncomfortable to feel that jerky response. It is especially when I'm slowing to go thru the roundabouts in our town. I'm slowing enough to navigate, but my intention isn't to stop. If I was driving manual, I'd stay in 2, but the car likes to get down into 1 (sooo many gears in this baby).
I only have 600mi on it, but pretty much accepting that this is normal behavior, unless someone here tells me otherwise?

From what I have read and experienced it is normal behavior and tends to soften with miles. I just turned over 2,000 miles on my '11 Q5 2.0, and I feel it has become less harsh. Either that or I have just become to expect it and no longer notice it.

It never feels like this transmission is in neutral. Is that normal? If I let my foot off the gas, I don't coast - I'm slowing quickly based on the gear I'm in. Anyone else notice this?

When I took the car on a test drive, I felt that when coming to a stop; it felt as if the transmission slammed into 1st abruptly with a clunk. I asked the salesman what was that and he said it was the brakes being new. I said it felt like a transmission not shifting smooth and I was right. There were other posts from owners saying they got a letter from Audi to get the tranny reprogrammed and cured the problem.

So is this true? Should we take our cars to be reprogrammed or should we just leave it alone and hope it gets better with time?

If it was the flaw in the program, I don't think it's going to get better. You may risk the chance of damaging the transmission in the long run and that's what sounds like. I don't have a Q5 so use your own discretion.

Most folks on here who had this issue had it go away after a few thousand miles. I had mentioned earlier that mine went away after about 3k miles. That being said, there are posts where this has not been the case. My .02 - if it's still there at the 5k maintenance, ask the dealer to diagnose.
