Q5 vs Cayenne

You do realize that the Q5 and Cayenne are in completely different categories ? The Cayenne is a nice machine but it's much bigger/heavier and $$$.

Q5 vs Macan is more appropriate.

I tested both and chose the 3.0T Q5 over the Macan back in 2016. There was not a significant performance, handeling or comfort difference between the 2 to justify the $25K price difference.

If used:
I would choose depending on budget either SQ5 or Q5 2.0T (automatic Quattro) from 2014 and following technologies (convenience start/keyless entry, backup camera, ADS, powered tailgate, Bluetooth, puddle/warning/entry lights, xenon with corner lights, garage door entry *****, and in addition the safety package meaning Can gateway with extended can support) and add a racechip and a larger intercooler from. 3.0 diesel if 2.0T.
Q5 2013 (facelift) looks better externally than used Macan. Q5 2014 has less problems than 2013.
My Q5 TFSi 2009 211ps + 55 ps from racechip is like that. (Racechip mode on efficiency with a saving 2l/100km. (7 speed DSG Quattro.). Some technologies were retrofitted but retrofitting never ends.
If new:
Macan 2019 model is waysome. Much better looking than Q5 or SQ5 2018. If you can afford the 2019 model which just made its debut, then I would get the Macan without consideration.

The biggest drawback on the Macan S vs the Q5 TDI - Fuel economy. Highway driving easily nets 33-35 mpg in the TDI, while you're lucky to get 25-27 mpg in the Macan. The other drawback we've observed is that the Macan's sloping hatch significantly reduces the usable cargo space when removing the luggage guard and trying to pack the cargo area full.
The same year they bought these cars (Q5/Macan S) my brother purchased a 2012 Cayenne S. It was generally disliked by everyone. Too big, heavy and yet it didn't fit much more inside then the Q5. He quickly sold it and got a full size Range Rover - which is a boat and makes me car sick just looking at it! :-)

It really comes down to how many $$ your'e willing to spend. The Macan is absolutely a step up for the interior but not enough to justify the price ++.Mechanically it's a wash.I just visited Porsche Cda. website and there's zero focus on engine options. This is Porsche ??

In Europe.
2018
Q5 2.0T comes with 252 ps 7 speed s-tronic similar to DCT transmission (transmission same as my European 2009 Q5).
SQ5 3.0T comes with 354 ps 8-speed tiptronic
Chiptuning 252ps 2.0T will increase to 320ps.
My Q5 2009 tfsi achieves 266ps with racechip RS (3 modes with Bluetooth), and the more expensive racechip GTS 9 ps more (3 connectors instead of 2). Trying to keep up with newer Q5 2.0T original performance I guess.
