If its not broken, Audi won't replace it.

Service Advisors were pretty sure MY10 Q5 were all fitted with metal impeller water pumps. Some on this and other Audi forums thought so too. Look what happened - they finally conceded that mine had a plastic impeller! Luckily I was only 5 min from home. Imagine having to wait for Roadside Assistance (tow truck) after a nice dinner out with the wife on a Saturday nite?? We were even planning for a long road trip next week. Luckily this happened now. I should have peace of mind leaving next week, barring any other unforeseen premature failure! LOL....

I know how that works, earlier this summer was driving through town in the S5 (which gets attention whether or not you like it) and it started to let out this incredibly loud screetching sound when moving. At first I thought it was another car, when I realized it was coming from mine, I though I had dropped some part of the exhaust it was dragging on the pavement. Pulled the car over and couldn't see anything wrong with it, didn't want to screw around with it so called for a tow and had it flatbedded back home.

Of course as I was moving the car from the flatbed to the garage the sound was no longer present. Looking it it later on that evening with the wheel off, I found evidence that something (pebble?) had become lodged between the brake rotor and the dustshield. The ride in reverse off the tow truck must have dislodged it.

Now granted I have had many tow trucks show up in my driveway with cars of varying shapes and sizes (and often times me as well) but driving through town with it on the back of flatbed was not something I hope to repeat!

I'm sure they won't (or can't), but I really, really wish they could. I just have a feeling that mine's going to go out when it's -40 degrees and I'm on a road trip literally 200 miles from a tow truck. That's a really long wait with no heat.

If it was me I would go in and ask for a discount on a pre emptive swap....take evidence of others having this problem if they question you. The fear of being out somewhere stranded is completely understandable.

Our Q5 is a 2010 with Jan. 10 delivery so I'd say that the 2010 spec. has the less than reliable water pump.

If I remember right, the cut off built date for the new water pump is either dec 09 or Jan 2010. It looks liek you just miss that date

Default Water Pump P/No.

Part no. of the replacement Water Pump on my Warranty Invoice reads: 06E-121-005-G
Do you mean 06E or -G as the ending letter, Mr. Master Tech?

Good point! Ours was build week 44 of 2009 - took a few extra weeks to reach our shores as the ship had to take a detour down the East coast of the US to drop some cars off for you guy's!
