Had the windshield replaced on my 2011 A5 under my insurance policy - no deductible.
Local glass shop used aftermarket glass - don't know the manufacturers name.
One block from the shop, I'm seeing an optical distortion at the bottom of the windshield - right in my line of sight.
Glass shop guy see's it and agrees to replace with another aftermarket glass as insurance company will not pay for OEM windshield.
I call insurance company - tell them it's a safety issue as my vision is distracted - I want OEM.
Took two days but insurance company agreed to OEM windshield.
Went back to local glass shop, they had the OEM windshield and made the swap.

The usually suggestion by glass installers is try and look through a replacement windshield at a grid pattern before it is installed in the vehicle.
Saves a lot of grief. From my experience PPG replacement glass is very good.

I just replaced my windshield. Insured by GEICO. Told GEICO that I wanted OEM glass. GEICO said they pay for equivalent glass product, I would have to pay difference for OEM. I told GEICO I preferred OEM and they put it on the order to Safelite.
When Safelite came I asked to inspect the glass before install and my concern for OEM. Installer told me its OEM, they just picked up from Audi dealer. The glass had the Audi rings and was manufactured by Carlife. Safelite said no cost to me, fully covered by GEICO.
Is Carlife a new OEM vendor for Audi? Perhaps the cost of OEM windshields have come down due to the added sources for Audi production now in Mexico?
The Safelite invoice shows cost for Audi OEM windshield as $630 ($700 list) plus $256 install. I think Audi OEM windshields used to cost about $1000.
