Default Radio always defaults to on?

So this is a slightly annoying issue that I've been having and can't seem to find the answer to. Every time I start the car, the radio turns on. Now in my previous cars, the radio only turns on when I start the car if the radio was on when I parked. The Q5 seems to default to turn on the radio no matter how I left it previously. The only way it doesn't is if I change the MMI to Media and not have my iPhone plugged in.

Anyone have any idea how to change this setting so the radio defaults to off unless I turn it on?

Did you try pushing the on/off button on the passenger side of the console before turning off the car? I have not tried it myself but I would thing it would turn off the MMI screen altogether.

That's how I turn off the radio, I press the volume ****/on/off switch on the passenger side of the shifter. But when I restart the car, it comes on again.

The radio defaults on, all you can do is turn down the volume.

Default Quick way to prevent radio coming on automatically

You can shut down the control panel (and freeze whatever is playing) by pushing and holding the On/Off **** for a few seconds. An "Audi Info Center" banner (or something like that) will remain on the screen, and nothing will come on until you push the On/Off again.

Yes. That is the answer. Pushing and holding the ON/OFF button for 2-seconds will SHUT OFF the "Audi MMI" system, and it will remain off until you hit the ON/OFF button again. The dashboard screen will show just the "Audi MMI" graphic, which tells you the system is OFF.
When you just push the ON/OFF button momentarily, you're only "muting" the audio, and it will automatically "unmute" itself the next time the ignition is turned on. While this is a pain in the butt, it actually kind of makes sense.
There are a number of quirks in the way the Audi MMI interface works. It's almost as if the designers of the system never actually tried using it in a vehicle.
