I'm very, very happy with the mileage I'm getting.
I drive every day 80 miles round trip to work. 80% rural interstate, 20% moderate to heavy traffic. I set the cruise control on the interestate to 72. I have observed 28 miles consistently in this setting.

When driving around town, I get 22 to 23.

Combined driving (and religiously watching the trip computer) is 24.

I'm using Shell 93 Premium gas as I have 2 Shell stations on my way to work here in the Madison, WI area.

Wish I could help here--maybe soon.

In addition to our Car Reliability Survey, TrueDelta conducts a real-world fuel economy survey. Unlike other such surveys, this one includes driving style and driving conditions--which can make a huge difference.

No responses for the Q5 yet, but we have 16,000 responses for other cars.

No matter what survey, it is screwed up if people trusts value their car computer shows.

What ever brand I have driven, onboard computer always shows several gallons or liters better than log book with true distance (miles/km) devided by used fuel (gal/L).

The 3.2 V6 in my R32 has continued to get better mileage and I'm nearing 25K miles. The average has gone from 19 to 23 in my mixed use, mostly commuter traffic driving. Some mornings with steady speeds are now up to 27mpg - way higher than when new. So, yes, I think these engines to get more efficient as they break in.

More than satisfied. All this power and mid-20's mpg is about as much as you can expect these days.

2010 Q5- I averaged 18.6 MPG, first tank of fuel.(provided by dealer upon delivery 8/12. These were city, highway and freeway miles, speeds from 0-80+. Very pleased with that thus far. On board computer actually showed 18.7 MPG.

Everyone please clarify;

US or imperial miles per gallon?

Car computer or calculated MPG?

Those of you using your trip computer to comment may want to go through a few tanks and calculate the old fashion way. I calculate on every fill up. In 7000 miles our Q5 religiously averages 19.2 US MPG (actual) with sport mode off. The trip computer shows this as 26-28! Our first tank was 18.2. This increased until we reached 19.2. One mostly highway tank did yield 20.6. 1 tank with sport mode on was 28mpg.

Our daily commute is 36 miles (28 highway, 8 city). AC has been on since day one and weather has been hot (over 95deg) since purchase. Terrain here is slightly hilly. I'm hopeful that when the weather cools off we will see a 1-2 mpg improvement.

20 miles avg seems inline with with epa ratings. I'm surprised it's that high considering the Q's weight and power.

Agreed. I was initially disappointed with our "real" mileage, mainly because I read a lot of reviews by people using their computers when quoting mileage (my bad). However when I put things into perspective, against other vehicles I've owned, the Q5 does very well.
