the lights in the hatch do not work. Thoughts? Wierd thing is now the lights that are in the bumper cover seem to act like brake lights and I thought in the past they were only running, rear fogs and reverse lights. Can anyone verify this?

Who did the work? They might have switched some wiring. I haven't pulled the Q5 bumper off but I'm assuming the lights are connected with plugs and only fit into their specific plug. If so, they may have cut wiring and spliced it back together incorrectly.

The lights in the rear bumper cover are working it's only the bigger lights in the hatch cover that are not working. This is the second time we have had the bumper cover painted (don't ask) and the first time they did it there was no problem. It's going back to day for them to fix.

Normally when you open the tailgate the function of their lights transfer to the bumper lights. So your repairer has not correctly installed or reset the sensor that tells the car that the hatch is closed. Take it back and ask them to fix it.
