Default removing bumper protector

Hi all,

I have the stainless steel bumper protector/plate from eBay installed over a year ago. The protector now started discoloring and fading which makes the car looks pretty ugly. It was installed via 3M tapes. I am thinking about getting a better one (perhaps the one from Germany). My question is can I just pull the old one out? Will the 3M tapes underneath it damage paints? If pulling the one out will cause more issues or damaging the paint, then I would rather just keep the way it is right now.

Thanks.

Could you post a picture of the bumper protector installed so we can see and potentially avoid a similar problem. Thank you.

Don't have the car right now and most likely it will be too dark to take pictures when I get home tonight. I will take some pcitures and post here tomorrow.

Try fishing line. Get between the protector and the car and "saw" it off. I have done this with emblems before. Works great. Finish up with goo gone and a good polish/wax

Or dental floss. Just be sure to use a hair dryer to warm-up the bumper as you feed and saw your way across.

As promised, I took couple pictures this afternoon and here you go. I already washed clean and polished it over Labor Day weekend but there are still some rust by the edge of protector can't get rid off and chipped looking spots are still visible (although already much better than before).

That rust and finish erosion is really nasty. Definitely should remove and replace with real stainless accessory. Was it an eBay vendor? Should write them.

Can anyone suggest a better quality bumper plate? Definitely preferred a real stainless steel. Thanks.

I have noticed other style bumper protection, one that had a "SLine" logo on it. Mostly on ebay. Not sure of quality.

Search for bumper protection on AudiWorld. There is at least one other thread on bumper protection.
