In most cases, a car's width have a lot more to do with how big a car drive than the length, especially in the city. The Q5 is already a pretty wide car, the MDX is actually 4.5 inches wider than the Q5. I dont know if you ever drove the MDX on a daily basis before, but it is a hard car to drive in the city due to its width and because of that, there is nothing sporty about the way a MDX drives.

I owned an MDX 2005 and it was generally trouble free but had it one big repair (new transmission). I cross shopped the MDX and the 2011 Q5 3.2 and was undecided until I test drove the Q5 again after I drove the MDX. The handling and drive dynamics of the Q5 won me over. Plus there is something special about the interior of the Audi. Having said all that the MDX is a fine choice that was about $2K+less expensive. Its a matter of taste and if you need the extra room.
By the way I traded in the 2005 MDX and it retained 51.3% of its price after 5 years! I have a feeling the Audi will not do as well in 5 years but we will see.

There will always be cases where someone with a particular brand will have no issues and someone else will have tons.
For reliability, you need a larger sample size than a few of us posting here. I've posted to truedelta.com, and it's a useful site to compare makes and models. The 2010 and earlier Q5's have unfortunately not done very well on there, but I believe most of those issues (water pump, DRL) have been resolved with the 2011's.

I have a '10 Q5 with only 5K miles. Issues have been minor. Low speeed steering shudder from day 1. Couple squeeks and rattles. Dealer has handled the steering and sunroof rattle. I still have the back seat rattle behind the driver side. Really love the vehicle though. If you don't need a 3rd row forget the Acura. I've had a few Hondas and a few German cars. If you are an enthusiast the comparisons are not close. Get the Audi.
