On some cars, they have the ability to switch between miles and kilometers - that is the speedometer does not have the classic Miles with Kilometers overlaid and instead will recalibrate to show your speed as miles or kilometers (same goes for outside temp, etc...) Does the Q5 have this capability?

Mines on order otherwise I'd probably know the answer

Reason I ask is I do a lot of traveling from the US to Canada, and this would be a great feature to have.

Yes it does. I believe you have to go through CAR settings. There's a lot of customizable features on this car so once you get your car you should play around with these features.

The speedo and temp etc physical meters are what they are depending your location but computer display can be changed to show alternative format on some measurements.

For example, if your Canadian speedo main speed with larger font is in km/h then smaller font is in mi/h.

Oil temperature is what it is, your is Celsius and there is no alternative.

Computer can show digital values either way, distance either mi or km, speed either mph or kph, Outside temp either F or C and time either am/pm or 24 hours.
