I think it is there for paper maps. I know when I used to do cross country without a GPS, I had AAA Trip Tickets that would have fit in there perfectly!

Why would a car that comes with Nav have a map pocket, especially when there's a glovebox and 2 pockets behind the front seats? Sounds backward for a luxury car maker to do something as silly as that.

This thread is so funny. I have had my Q5 for about 4 weeks now and every time I get in it, I look at that little hook and storage net and just scratch my head.

I believe you can use that net for the aforementioned scraper and be able to conveniently scratch your head as needed.

I've had my Q5 for over a year and never noticed it until I saw this thread! I had to actually get into the passenger side and look down.

FWIW - Here's a pic of the AHP682 personal umbrella from the Audi Collection in my Q5; seems to fit fine to me. Granted, this is not a very large umbrella but will certainly do the job for 1 person.

To make this worse for me, My 2012 C class Mercedes also has one of these. I've tried the umbrella thing in my Q5, major hassle even with small one. Currently keep ice scraper, but still don't think I'm right. Wish I knew, it would solve two problems. Gotta be a German thing.
