Hmmm, I concede that it is not impossible to put an umbrella there. Yet, I still doubt whether that is the intended use, since the umbrella "solution" Audi "officially" offers uses the multi-use attachment instead:

There are also door pockets. But to me, the strongest argument against the "map hypothesis" is that the driver simply can't safely reach it unless the car is stopped. It seems intended for the passenger's use.
