His instructions are dead on but I just replaced the clip. I bought a 2012 A6 just last month. The clip broke later that day from just opening it once. Of course Audi Des Moines wouldn’t help out. They wanted $374 to fix it. I found this post and ordered the part from Audi Columbus, OH for $9 plus shipping. I had to use pliers to pull the old clip off. It went back together in less than a minute.
