Sunroof - No full sun shade

So what is the story with the sun roof in the Q5 where you cant fully block out the light because it comes with a flimsy mesh. I was shocked that it didnt come with a blind to block out the sun or street lights if you want.
Am I missing something?

the curtain is translucent indeed, and does't block all sunrays

See my post under S-LINE pictures, and I show the difference in lighting with and without the shade on a sunny day - not all that much. Plus you can see the transparancy of the shade. That is part of the reason I went with an S-Line, so I could have the black headliner. It still feels very airy and elegant, without the whole cabin being so lit up.
The shade is becoming a more common thing from what I understand, I think to increase headroom. The new Cadillacs have a shade as well. I have a Porsche 993 Targa that uses a shade for the glass roof, but at least it is totally opaque.

I have not had any problems either. Parked in direct sun a few times in early September (still hot here in NY), and car was no hotter than my non-sunroofed vehicle (plus my Q5 is black, other car is silver, and it was still no hotter).

i don't mind. i prefer the mesh because it makes it feel very open and you can leave the sunroof open with shade shut. this allows air in but not much sun light. and at night you open it up and everything is bright and nice.

Believe me, on a summer day with 100+ degree temperatures YOU WILL NOTICE. It takes a long time for the AC to catch up when parked in the sun in these temperatures. It is noticeably worse than most other cars. Most find salvation in tinting the roof. I'm not big on tinting, so I went out of my way to park in the shade this summer. Either solution makes a huge difference. I've been toying with the idea of building a nice drop in shade, but time for this sort of project has eluded me so far.
However, as irritating as the skimpy OEM shade is, we really like the sun roof and would get it again.

I am just gonna come right out ans say what others are thinking. This is one of the ALL TIME DUMBEST things a car manufacturer has ever done. Bottom line, the sunroof can be open or "half closed". Never actually closed. Thanks Audi. This is causing me to look elsewhere for my next car. Volvo and VW have the SAME EXACT issue. HORRIBLE. Do they all get in a room and do stupid drugs or what? WTF?
