Wow Norskie I guess I better buy a lotto ticket. My past 3 Audis have never had me concerned with "body integrity " issues.Still felt like bank vaults after > 200k mls.No creaks cracks etc.except from my knees.
I've also lucked out on the sunroof issue with my 14Tdi.I live in Quebec and I'm a smoker so my sunroof is always tilted open. When it's -35 it often has a lot of trouble popping up through ice but has never failed me and it's quiet as can be.
I had a similar issue with my 2016 Q5, but the rattle was coming from the plastic trim from under the moon roof. I took off the trim and used athletic tape on the backside of the trim so it doesn't rub against the siding of the track. Not sure if its related, but this trick fixed my issue.
After trying several things, including VW lube & the teflon lubricant, this method also fixed the moonroof rattle on my 2014 Q5 - although I just took the two trim pieces off and haven't put them back on. I have no idea HOW these little pieces were making the noise, but it’s gone. The trim doesn’t appear to have any purpose other than as cosmetic coverings of the bottom rail, is that accurate?
So far I tried everything in here with little to mixed results. Lately my sunroof has been lauder then the music in the car and I listen to stuff like Iron Maiden (I know Im old)
I bought the most generic rubber seal lubricant at Napa and applied it. Not 100% but seems much better over a couple of short trips so far. Time will tell. May reapply. something easy and cheap enough to try.
I 🖤 my Audi Q5. But the huge panoramic moon roof rattles, especially in the cooler winter. Based on the Audi forum link below, this is a common challenge with this car. My boutique car shop won't touch the issue due to sheer complexity & the liability of even opening it up for inspection. They told me they will only examine it for me if it is leaking, which it is not.
I usually have my radio on & don't hear the rattling, but recently I finally hit my limit with the winter ratting. So I opened the sun shade, jammed a couple of retractable pens with rubber grips into the lip of the moon roof & surprisingly the rattling stopped! Seems my hunch thar the spring-loaded wind & bug sheild that pops up when you open it is the source of the rattling was right!
So I headed over to Ace Hardware & bought 15 5/8" black Velcro sticky dots for $5.00 USD & deployed the fuzzy (not hooked) sides on the chunks that depress the spring-loaded wind & bug shield, as well as along the front lip of the moon roof, where I suspected the rattling was occuring. Wallah! Problem solved -- for $5!
Hi I was wondering if u had any pics to show exactly where u placed the velcro stickers... i am having the same rattling/creaking sound coming from my panoramic sunroof as well...and thought i'd try this method out as well. Thanks in advance
I opened my sunroof and sprayed that Blaster stuff on any surface that appeared to rub or otherwise contact anything and the noises are gone.
Quiet a deal at $5 from Home Depot.
Thanks. And to think people mocked me for that remedy.
I've since moved on to yet another solution. Marine grease and an acid brush. Will cost you about $5 as well. I feel like it lasts longer than the teflon spray.
Audi's fix is 2 different tubes of extremely expensive grease and a brush. Just dip the brush into the grease and spread all around. I haven't heard a rattle in several years.

My wife has been bugging me for some time to fix the sunroof noise in our 2014 Q5, so I have been following all of the postings from the numerous members who have suggested various fixes to eliminate this annoying issue. In our Q5, I could make the rattle disappear by opening the sunroof in the tilt position, but as soon as I closed it, it would return. I had also tried the TSB lubrication approach with some success, but the noised would return after a short absence. After I removed the plastic trim pieces as noted in this thread, the noise/rattle disappeared completely, so I finally located the rattle source. Rather than leaving these pieces out, I decided to try the athletic tape approach as described above. With the tape in-place, the noise/rattle has still not returned. As noted by other members, I also don't understand how these little plastic trim pieces can cause the rattle in the closed sunroof, especially since dealers have been replacing the sunroof frames w/ minimum success. Regardless, the noise problem in our Q5's sunroof has been permanently resolved (knock on wood!). Thanks for the insight.
