Sunroof recall - post change interior noise
My 2012 Q5 was called in for the sunroof recall. After examination they determined that the sunroof did need to be replaced.
When I picked the car up everything seemed fine however when I got on the highway and started travelling at 65mph+ I thought one of the windows must be ajar. None of the windows, or doors, or tailgate were open at all. The new sunroof results in a noticeably higher interior noise level at highway speeds.
Can anyone else comment?
I have downloaded a Decibel Meter for my Android phone and intend to record the noise levels however I have no benchmark (pre-recall) with which to compare. I contacted the Audi NA customer service number to ask for the specifications on the interior noise levels at highway speeds and the lady I spoke with felt the manufacturer would not have this information but that they would check. (Of course the manufacturer must have this information but I am unlikely to hear back from the customer service people).
Would someone measure the interior sound levels in their Q5 with panoramic sunroof prior to recall so that we have a sense of what it should be? I am worried the dealer is going to say something like "sounds fine to me" and blow me off.
Thanks,
JT

Can't help you with the pre-recall noise levels but I was thinking the same thing. I keep checking for open windows since the sunroof replacement.
Perhaps one of the issues was that the car was sealed too well and created a positive pressure large enough to shatter the weak glass when a door was closed. Maybe part of the work involved opening up a vent somewhere in the rear. Any Audi insiders?

According to my service manager, the recall only involved 4 screws and the actual sunroof glass. My sunroof was rattle crazy before the recall, but it was nice and quite after the replacement. So I was happy about that. As the interior noise, it didn't change before and after.

Mine was replaced a few weeks ago at the 5000 mile service. There was no discernible difference. I'm pretty picky about road noise and wind noise and was worried about there being some noise or rattle. It's been my experience that you shouldn't mess with a glass roof once it's working right and not making any noise.
If anything, it actually seems quieter now.

Thanks for the help
Thanks for everyone's feedback.
Edmund's had the 2011 Q5 sound metrics as follows:
Db @ Idle: 43.4
Db @ Full Throttle: 70.3
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 61.7
As mine is 2012 it should be comparable (or better) and yet @ 70mph I was registering 72+ db.
The dealer performed a road test, agreed that something was off, and then they remounted the sun roof and everything was back to normal!
I was told that Audi specifies that the front of the sunroof be sunk a hair & that the back be raised a hair. Apparently on the initial configuration of ours one side was correct and the opposite was inverted resulting in the increased noise.
Thanks to my Audi dealer for recognizing the issue and rectifying it expeditiously.
