Default Temperature Gauge

While driving today in -3 to -8 degree weather I noticed the temperature gauge started to drop slightly while driving (was going like 30mph and had been driving for about an hour), then it went back to normal. Is that normal given the temp outside? I've never seen this happen. Thanks for any input. Have a great night!

I could see this happening if the thermostat cycled and let real cold coolant into the block before it shut again. Especially if the gauge is not buffered.

I just noticed this same behavior myself. It dropped very slightly and certainly not during that cold of temperatures.

Thanks for the responses. We had another really cold night the other day and it got to -10 and -12. This time the temperature gauge went from the normal 90 to down to almost 60. It took about 3 to 5 minutes for the temp to get to normal again.
