Had this smell in my car. The car is almost 2 years old with 11k miles on it and is always garaged. The smell went away after my 2nd scheduled maintenance. I am not sure if they did any flushing, but i know for sure that they replaced the pollen filter.

You can open the hood without raising the wipers.

I wonder if you drain is plugged.for the AC evap? You can also get these kits to help get rid of the mold

Most auto parts places carry products specific for this purpose

"the dirty sock syndrome" is remedied by cutting off the A/C compressor about 3-4 minutes before you reach your destination...essentially drying out the fins in the evaporator. Just press the snowflake button and allow the fan to run. The dry evaporator will not promote bacteria growth. This is a common problem with many cars. It seems that with the smaller and more efficient evaporators crammed into smaller better sealed boxes the mildew growth becomes the trade-off. Problem gets worse with higher relative humidity...rain much lately where you are?
BG Frigi-Fresh is a popular product for temporary resolution.

Ummm, yeah. What he said. You don't have to put the wipers in service mode to raise the hood. LOL. Service mode means service of the wipers, not the engine.
