Default Is there a doctor in the house?

Wife drives a 2010 Q5 with ~10k miles on it.
Just got a call that the dash lit up with:
- EDC failure? Along with "don't drive over 4,000 rpm"
- Temperature gauge lit up

I told her to bring it home and park it -- taking our other car. Any idea what might be going on? Water pump? Thanks. I just want to be a bit informed before I call the dealer.

Scott.

Water pump would be my guess, but when the water pump goes, it usually say low coolant instead of high temperature and water pump failure usually dont trigger the EPC warning light.

Hmm. Thanks folks. Seems like a phantom bug in the system. Her water level is fine, and I can't repro the issue unfortunately.

These issue rarely fix themselves, though. i think I'll ask the dealer to see if they can pull some codes.

Your Dealer should know about the problem.
My Dealer did as soon I told him what was going on with the Q

I had that issue earlier this year and the dealer had to replace a camshaft adjuster according to what Audi told them. No EDC warning since... that was about 10k miles ago. I don't recall the temp light coming on but I was just focused on that EDC warning.

EPC, electronic power control warning can be cause by a number of things, but as BCD-1 stated, the crankshaft position sensor is a good place to start.
