REALLY ??? U like buying gas ????
I run 40 PSI is what the tire says, 44 Max.
The DOOR sticker is a SUGGESTION, NOT LAW.
If U want max life, ad air for equal tire temps across the whole tread.................

Actually, my tires say 51 psi Max. But I don't think that means they should be run at that pressure. Sounds like 36 to 38 is about right for tread life and fuel economy. Handling is probably better at the recommended psi of 33.

I run 30 psi in the front, 29 in rear-roads here are bad, and both I and my wife have low back pain, so lower PSI helps to reduce pain...and gas mileage too...

True that the DOOR sticker is not the LAW. It is not a SUGGESTION but what factory recommended (similar for the motor oil, fuel etc)
On my Michelin Latitude Sport wrote: Maxi load 825 kg and max pressure 51 PSI
According to you I should ride on the 46 PSI of pressure

Do you know what that means ???

Dozens of engineers and specialists working on the development and testing of tires
I think that the engineers who designed and made the tire along with Audi engineer wrote what is optimal for a tire (vehicle weight, substrate temperature, type of substrate, the inner temperature of the air in the tire, the lateral and longitudinal forces, load, braking forces, etc.....)
I think they know best how much tire pressure should be, or maybe you know something better of them.
If you know better than them, congratulations
Good luck

Guess what, we can each do what we want to do - it's our own car and we can set it to whatever we want no matter how wrong it is ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
You are correct in that the mfg's put LOTS of psi in the vehicle when built and shipped from Europe and stored...
so they don't have a tire bleeding down while in transit only !
Not that it matters in a light car, but in the RV world we have to adjust pressure to ensure that it is high enough to handle the heavy loads..http://www.goodyearrvtires.com/tire-...n-loading.aspx
Max pressure means just that - the max pressure that shouldn't be exceeded COLD)
That's so if the tire says it will carrying 3500 lbs max,
it will only carry it at max pressure...
drop the pressure down and the load carrying ability drops too as shown in the chart below...
Recommended pressure is what the engineers calculated that is the optimum pressure for the expected load of the car and contents - a compromise of load handling, ride quality, and car handling...
The best pressure for your car is the pressure that in normal driving gives the biggest contact patch across the tread on the road...
For years I've been recommending the chalk test to get YOUR psi for YOUR car for YOUR load --> http://www.ehow.com/how_6948382_chalk-tires.html
good luck on your decision !
(but IMHO 42 psi is going to ride like iron wheels on concrete
)
