I'm kind of sorry I asked about the pressure. But it does sound like the 42 psi I had at delivery was high. I like the chalk test idea.

Don't be sorry for asking, it's a valid question. I would've expected the dealer as part of prep to have ensured tire pressures of whatever's specified on the door/manual. But yeah, doing a chalk test is one of the only ways to really be sure you have the right pressures, so it'd be good to try that and see what you find for your particular setup/area.

That's so if the tire says it will carrying 3500 lbs max,
it will only carry it at max pressure...
For passenger tire, load capacity don't increase after 35 PSI (41 PSI for XL tires). Thus max capacity is at 35 PSI and not max pressure.

ST (Special Trailer) tires that you used in your screenshot are different.

My A5 felt like it was needing frequent steering correction and the ride was harsh. The tires were inflated to the door label and not what was in the owner's manual for light load (one to two people). The door sticker is a fully loaded recommended pressure. Once I lowered the pressure, the ride and handling were much improved.

When I got my Q5, I immediately looked up what the lighter load pressure was and changed it.

Now those airless tires are TOO cool !!!!!!!!!!!!
for offroad I can see the benefit - but how much mud loading would go on with those

and Yoshi - am familiar with the differences in ST tires just a screenshot I had on my desktop for my rv's tires and used it -
but the concept is the same as stated in your link:

"A tire's maximum load is the most weight the tire is designed to carry. Since a tire's load carrying capacity is related to the tire's size and how much inflation pressure is actually used... "

agree - only longer thread I've seen is which oil and which fuel
(but would be dwarfed by political and religious threads if allowed !)

Ok, since you said it, what oil is a good one to use for a 2.0T Q5? I meant to ask the dealer and forgot. I know there are preferred oil types listed in the manual but not brands.

Not sure if there's an updated list, but here's a semi-recent TSB with the approved oils (IIRC you'll need 502.00): http://microsites.audiusa.com/ngw/09..._1997-2012.pdf
