I recently brought my 15' to dealer for 5000 mile service. Noticed afterwards on paperwork that the tires are down to 7mm. ( 10mm new). I have the 18" continental lx sports. Thinking they must have mismeasured I measured them. Yup 7mm on all 4 tires. So in 5000 miles the tires have worn 30%?
At this pace ill need tires by 12000 miles. Anyone else experience this? Tires are all properly inflated. I had OEM michelins on previous Q5 that lasted 35k miles but they had other issues.

10mm ???????????????
A new tyre begins life with approximately 8mm of tread.
Continental Tyres -Research into wet driving conditions calls for tyres to be changed at 3mm

0,32 inch = 8,1mm

Spijun is correct. The tires start life with 10/32" tread (7.93mm). Here is Continentals spec sheet.

With that clarified, keep in mind most OEM tires aren't designed to provide long treadlife. Instead, they are designed to deliver good fuel economy, comfort, and low noise.
So, you quite possibly will need new tires by 15-20K miles anyway.

I have the same tires in 19". I measured them last week and they were at 8/32 after 16,000km (10,000 miles).
People tell me AWD wears tires quicker, but it doesn't seem too bad. They wear more evenly IMO.

I have a 2014 TDI with 28k with OEM tires(3/4) still on my car.
One of my tires did blow out @ 10k, due to debris on the highway.
So you can get past 30k on OEM tires.
