Default Towing: Need 4 pin connector, not 7 pin

My new Q5 will arrive with the towing hitch option installed. From searching through this forum, it looks like the only electrical connection supplied is the 7 pin RV style connector. My 1991 vintage boat trailer uses the 4 pin connector. I found an adapter that plugs into the 7 pin connector plug and converts the connector to 4 pins. Anyone have any experience doing that? Does Audi require some magical or special adapter?

Standard adapter, but for me anyway, Audi did not provide it. It was cheap even with the LEDs.

I found one for about $6. It would appear to do the job, but checking just in case. My experience with BMWs and Audis has taught me to never assume that they can't come up with a need for their special solution to a problem, especially if there is good money in it.

Yes...my trailer is 4-pin and I bought an adapter from Bass Pro Shops. Works as advertized.

Thanks. Glad it's a simple $6 solution.

Walmart has them as well.
Just a heads up, If you leave it plugged in with out the trailer plugged to it you will get an error message trailer bulb out.

Just trying to clarify - I also ordered the trailer hitch - is there wiring already installed at the hitch?

Thanks!

For $800, I would certainly hope so. I'll know for sure later this week, but the pictures posted here in the forum show a plug to the left of the receiver slot. That's typical. My MDX has a similar setup, but they include a 7 pin and 4 pin connector block.

Fully wired, We are discussing the adapter required for a 4-pin trailer connector. Please read previous posts to catch on quickly.
Enjoy your new car and hitch.
