Default True value of Audi maintenance prog.

My dealer sent me a $100 off coupon on the Audi maintenance program which gets it down to $690 for our Q5. Doing the math I still don't see it is worth it. I see I would get:

5 oil and filter changes at 15K, 25K, 35K, 45K, 55K, ($35 each)
1 pollen filter ($25)
4 spark plugs ($15)
1 Air filter ($25)
2 brake fluid flushes ($150 each including labor)

I would do all the above except the brake fluid flush. The Q5 2.0T looks like an easy vehicle to work on. So adding all of the above up I get $390. Still not worth it. Am I missing something? I know there are other things included but they are all inspects and they do those for free anyway. Brake pads are not covered. Tranny fluid replacement is not covered. I'm thinking I will pass.

No doubt doing some of the things yourself would be significantly cheaper than buying Audi Care.
The biggest determination for me is time and convenience.

I think your math is off. Total should be $505.
4 oil and filter changes = $140. (AudiCare only goes to 45k)
So you would save about $200 doing those services yourself vs. going to Audi Service.

Does your time and (in)convenience spent on those activities outweigh the time/(in)convenience of having the car serviced by the dealership?

I would be scared if you did a $35 oil change and drove 10k miles on it. I would be surprised if you found vw502.00 approved oil and a quality filter for that cheap.

Plus, there is a a lot of value in Peace of Mind. They put the Q up on the rack to inspect and I like a trained eye on there. If there are any service bulletins to address, it is a good time to perform. My time is worth a heck of a lot more than the shop rate and if they screw something up, it's on them and not me. I've always had good service from Audi and expect nothing less.

You are right and good point. Somewhere the dealer told me that it would cover until 60K but $200 is not that much difference and if I need a new battery it's a wash.

Don't be scared. $35 gets you 4.5 quarts of Mobil 1 and an Audi oil filter.

I enjoy working on my cars and the savings. I once replaced the plugs in my former MB ML320 for $25 in plugs. Dealer wanted $600 for the job. It wasn't bad at all. Still, if it is a wash on supplies I might just do it.

there is something to be said about getting the car back to the mothership periodically for updates etc... considering everything is computer controlled now.

An extra $200 over 4 years for a $40k car seems to me like a no brainer. Also, you may want to think about warranty issues if you won't be taking it to a certified shop for scheduled maintenance.
