True value of Audi maintenance prog.
#21
Having worked as a manager in a very large multi-state dealership, I have seen first hand the value of servicing a new vehicle by certified technicians for the brand vehicle.
I agree with the posts regarding saving $$ by completing basic maintenance by yourself or a local mechanic. However, there is tremendous value in building a loyal relationship with your local dealer. The service management team is your advocate to the manufacturer for any warranty issues as well as post- warranty problems that may arise. For example, I witnessed owners with serious engine/transmission problems get prompt resolution after the service manager went to bat for them. If the first time they meet you is when you have a problem...good luck, you may have to wait in line since regular customers will be at the head of the class.
The risk of voiding your warranty is also why most people prefer to keep the service with certified Audi technicians.
I did purchase the Audicare, but it was primarily for convenience and a small savings in price. It is also transferable to a new owner- should I decide to sell or trade in advance of the mileage.

What he said!!
Also helps to leave a case of beer or a bottle of something for the service advisor at the end of the year. I have built up a 6-year relationship with my service advisors, even if I do not buy my cars at that dealership. I always get a courtesy car, by car is completed quickly and they will assist with small details.
Worth every penny in peace of mind for both my wife and I.

I have another thread about my 15,000 service but thought I'd chime in here. Just had the 15K done yesterday, I don't have AudiCare, it cost $250 (before the $30 off coupon they sent me) and they did a tire rotation without me requesting it and at no cost. I just now rechecked the receipt and it shows $0 cost and no labor.

in terms of service intervals, am i correct in understanding that it's based on mileage and not time?
so if i only drive 6-7k miles/year, i would get at most 3 services performed, and maybe even only 2? in that case the plan probably doesn't make sense.
am i understanding how the plan works correctly?
or is it possible to do:

or is it possible to do:
- 15k service at 8k
- 25k at 16k
- 35k at 24k
- 45k at 32k (or right before the plan expires)

i understand the plan length depends on whether 5 years or 45k miles occurs first, but does the service interval follow that as well? in other words, does the plan guarantee 4 services during the life of the plan? so that:
can you schedule a service even if you haven't reached the actual service mileage? or if you only drive 4k miles/year (20k miles in 5 years), would you only get 1 service under the plan?
i'm just trying to figure out if the plan is worth it if you're a low-mileage driver.
- 1st service - 15k miles or 15th month of plan, whichever comes first
- 2nd service - 25k miles or 30th month of plan, whichever comes first
- 3rd service - 35k miles or 45th month of plan, whichever comes first
- 4th service - 45k miles or 60th month of plan, whichever comes first

For a time frame your 5K service should be between 6mths to a year from purchasing the vehicle. Afterwards each service should be performed at an interval of a year. So yes, either way mileage or timeline you'll get all the services you paid for done.
