Upgrading the stereo / head unit
My son has a 2015 Q5 with standard bose system. Can this be replaced/upgraded with Audi's premium system?
What are the options for upgrading the system?

I would think that would be an ambitious project. If you could get all the parts from a junked Q5 with B&O you might be able to patch together an upgrade. I don't know if it has been done.
I think many quality car stereo shops can upgrade amplifier, speakers and subwoofer to get you better sound.
Using Google search I found these links:

If the 2015 is like the 2014 the standard "Concert Sound" system is not made by Bose. The premium MMI system is the only factory upgrade, not sure who made that.
I *think* there is no "head unit" per se. A head unit means a control unit, separate from the power amplifiers. In the Q5, there's what appears to be a standard double-din sized radio hiding in the dashboard. Pull off the ***** and center panel (see YouTube for videos) and the actual radio is revealed. Not a head unit but a whole one-piece radio. There is a separate interface to the AMI socket in the glove box, and a telephone wireless interface that may be under the passenger seat, but IIRC the radio is complete.
That gives you the terribly expensive choice to try finding the factory upgrade at a junkyard (they never seem to have Q5 parts) or through the dealer. Or, simply pulling the factory radio and installing any double-din radio from any source, then fabbing up a new dashboard panel to make it look good. (There are any number of online machine shops and "panel" makers that your son can explore.)
If you ask the big names in aftermarket radios, like Crutchfield, what the options are? They'll tell you to buy another car. Honest. Your son has a challenging project ahead of him, if he wants to see a real audio system in the car.

There is member on here that changed out the head unit with a Dynavin or something like that (can't remember). If you do a search of this forum you might it.

If I read the Dynavin thread properly, that does NOT upgrade the audio, nor does it replace any "head unit". The Audi Concert sound system is still supplying the sound with the same internal amp and same speakers. That won't improve sound quality at all.
The Dynavin just seems like it is about adding more software abilities.
On my last car I had upgraded the factory stereo but not the speakers. When the new stereo was stolen I said WTF, I'm going to replace the stock speakers as well as a new stereo. I can tell you, any kind of "stock" OEM speakers are there because they were supplied by the cheapest possible source. But if you want to replace them with better speakers, in today's cars? You may need to replace 10-12 speakers, not cheap or simple!
And the factory stereo will won't give you a true bass response, no matter who pretends the subwoofer makes a difference. (If the subwoofer gets no bass from the radio, all it can do is make fake "booms" that still aren't deep bass.)
