Default VAG-COM (VCDS) Gear Display Question

For those of you who have made the VAG-COM change to always show the gear you're in on the dash in both Drive "D" and Sport "S" modes, does it also still display the "D" or "S" on the dash screen, or do you lose that? If you lose the "D" or "S" on the dash screen, how do you know if you're in Drive or Sport mode?

It would be great to have the VAG-COM change to know what gear you're in before you start downshifting, but not sure if I'd want to lose the ability to know if the car was in Sport or Drive (although I suppose you could probably tell the difference by how the car is shifting).

Thanks!

This change makes the gear display look like
D1, D2, D3, etc...
OR
S1,S2,S3, etc...

so you don't lose the d or s mode

Without making this change, what is displayed when new? I remember seeing D1, D2, D3, etc. when test driving a new Q5 2.0T. Also, can a modification be made with Vag-Com to tighten the steering on a 2.0T, which unlike the 3.0T doesn't have the drive select feature available? Thanks.

It just says D, not D1 D2 D3 etc. What you remember seeing is probably M1 M2 M3 when you were using the tiptronic.

What JohnBoyToo said. But I don't understand how you wouldn't know if you're in D or S even if the screen didn't show it. You'll be in whatever mode you shifted into when you first started driving forward, lol.

There is a solution for this:

Enable Automatic Gear selection shown in DIS
[02 – Auto Trans] [Adaptation – 10]
Select “Single Gear Display” from top channel drop down menu
Select “D on/S on” from New value drop down menu

D1 to 8 in drive, M1 - 8 when using paddles, and S1-8 when in sport mode.

Pay no attention to my ludacriously amazing gas mileage.

Brrr...
I think you should be banned for showing -13 degrees no matter WHAT the scale

I'm sitting on the back porch barefooted and very warm in short sleeves and shorts !
