After going to the dealership for diagnosis of my dodgy MMI system, it appears that there is a fault in my MMI 3G control unit. I found out that the one I have is this part number:
8T1 035 664A
the one that they want to obtain and replace it with is this part number:
8T1 035 664 AX
From doing some research, it appears that the AX version supersedes the earlier A version, and that they are the same.
I know that I bought and Audi, but for some reason, I'm thinking nearly $3,000 for the replacement part maybe a shade too much! :@(
I have found the exact model number replacement online, and I've also found similar control units (8T1035664B and 8T1035664C).
Can someone tell me what the exact difference is? I see for the B & C, and they appear to be later date versions for the MMI firmware, but shouldn't it still work with the rest of my MMI components (the application lists it's still useful for my year of Q5)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try this before you make replacement of the MMI unit, not that complicated, or find someone who understands

Hey gang,
After some wheeling and dealing with my dealer, I scored a new 5F MMI control module (8T1 035 664 AX) for the low, low, firesale price of $1,400, installed!
Still, a lot better than the list price.
Don't know if this is allowed, but big shout-out to Audi of Livermore (CA)--you've got heart, and you earned my respect.
Thanks for all of the help, everyone.
