Default Water collects in the gasoline intake bin

Everytime I go through a carwash. Water collects in the gas intake bin (don't know the exact name). Shouldn't there be a hole to allow the water to drain out?

I was thinking of drilling a small hole there but was afraid to hit something inside...

I would not - as it may leak into the cabin then.

Most likely would leak into the wheel well, but I will take a look when doing next oil change when Q5 is on the lift...

go to home depot and get some silicon/rubber weatherproofing strips (3/8 to 1/4")with some adhesive backing. Cut to fit. Has worked well on my 09 Q5. You may get some drops of water but it won't fill up with water.

the trick is to cut it to the proper length/thickness, so that it's not too hard to open the cover.

I also used some 1/2" auto weather stripping to prevent water from getting in between the rear hatch - another spot where water can enter in a downpour.

thank for the tip,
Audi addressed the the rear hatch problem-they now use different gasket around the hatch, on 2010 and later models water does not leak into the cabing anymore (at least not from opening the rear door during the rain).
You can try calling the dealer about it, they can replace old gasket.

m1964:

That's good to know. In 2009, there was no gasket AT ALL for the rear hatch!

There is a hole there. It is small, but if you shine a flashlight below the gas cap you will see it.

I wonder if the dealer will seal the rear hatch better?

The drain hole is there just below the filler neck. It drains VERY slowly and probably needs to be cleared of debris on occasion.
