What puzzles me is that if they knew they were having an issue couldn't they identify which batch was having issue or at least the supplier and have replacements sent out ahead of time. I realize it's a new model but they are killing me. Just got a call this a.m. telling me it could be 2 weeks til the part comes in. Are they manufactuing the thing? Otherwise one would think Fed Ex would work.
I don’t think there is any wide spread issue with the water pump on the Q5. This is not a Toyota you are driving. Audi just do not have the network of suppliers and warehouse like Toyota do. Like most companies, Audi try to stock as little as possible to save on cost. Pretty much any parts out of the ordinary will be coming from Germany. The last time I heard, the Q5 production line is running at full capacity, replacement parts might take a while.

Just got another call. They have apparently identified it as an issue with the supplier. Trying to rush production as they had not anticipated failure (at 11,000 miles neither did I).

Have had 5 BMW's (328i, 528i, 525i, X5, 528xi) with no issues. Gotta say the Q5 drives better than any of them though which is why I bought it.

Symptoms were simple. Temp light came on and engine started to steam. Popped hood and noticed coolant reserve was empty and fluid was everywhere. Hoses were all intact so it didn't take to much effort to figure out what went wrong.
