Default Weight Distribution Hitch & Sway Control RV Camper

I found out you CAN INFACT install both Weight Distribution Hitch & Sway Control for a trailer on the audi, bmw or Mercedes SUV. They allaccept them.

The OEM does not like to tell you this because they are not allowed in Europe due to political reasons. Old policies and job savers mandated that brakes on trailer, sway control and weight distribution were outlawed in Europe. their current passenger vehicle hookups options are vastly inferior to NA. This was a surprise to me.

My local dealer vetted this list and said any are all fine

Soon after I bought my hitch, I asked the manufacturer if it was rated for weight-distribution....

"Our hitch is not rated for use with weight-distribution equipment. Such a rating is obtained through certification testing in compliance with SAE standards. Vertical-latching hitches rarely if ever pass such certification, while vertical-latching hitches almost always outperform horizontal hitches on non-weight-distributing tests. We are certified for non-weight-distributing towing."

Why don't you contact your hitch manufacturer?

Our hitch receiver is the Audi OE receiver with the integrated Audi 7 pin wiring. We also added a Redarc Tow Pro brake controller and had the factory hitch receiver reinforced considerably. Due to European regulations the hitch receiver is not likely rated for Weight Distribution applications BUT with the additional reinforcing I am more than comfortable using this hitch receiver to tow my 28 foot AS trailer.
I use an EAZ-Lift WD Hitch with 1000Lb bars and 2 Husky Sway Control bars. Properly set up this system works great.

Nice setup. Do you have any pictures of the reinforcing done to your hitch? I am curious as it appears the Q5 would have a lot of torsional load due to the long drop from cross beam to hitch receiver.

Stock Q5 hitch for comparison:

Thanks.

Sure do. The hitch reinforcement was done by CanAm RV in London Ontario. They are the Hitch Experts.

I don't know the exact answer to that question as there is not an easy to access scale system in our area (like CAT scales in the US) but I can tell you that it is less than 7300Lb but more than 5824Lb. I generally run with the Fresh Water tanks full.

Tongue weight is over 1000Lb which is spread out by the weight distribution.

You are aware that load capacity (which include occupants and cargo) of the Q5 is around 1000 lbs?

Impressive!
