Wet Weather Brake Function

I believe the Q5 has the feature whereby when it is raining the brake pads pulse to keep the rotors dry to improve wet weather overall braking performance.... My question is how is this behavior triggered --- could it be when the wipers are active?
Is it possible then if I leave my wiper switch set to "auto sensing" continuously would this activate the brake rotor drying process needlessly (when it is not raining) hence deteriorating the brake pads much sooner than expected? A few folks on the forums have mentioned early brake pad replacements ....

early brake pads replacement comes from euro/luxury makers using very soft pad compounds to get nice "touch" feel and shorter braking distance.

I think what you mean to say is the pads always have contact with the rotors.
Which is true to an extent. Pads aren't always in contact with the rotors. There is a very slight space between the two. If they were always touching you would easily over heat your pads and rotors.
