Thinking of getting a Q5 3.0T - what are you getting for gas mileage?
EPA is: City: 18 / Highway: 26 / Combined: 21

I just got mine yesterday so I'll share more as I drive it, but I picked it up from a dealership 250 miles from my house and reset the mpg while on the hwy headed home. I averaged 25mpg in all highway driving. Had the cruise set to 78mph most of the way, then about 60 for the last 50 miles due to being on smaller roads. Was a little worse than I was hoping/expecting but maybe it will get better as it breaks in.
On a side note, I was pleasantly surprised by the stop start system. Works flawlessly and is not very noticeable at all.

I took delivery of my 3.0T last week and tried the stop start yesterday - I agree it works quite seamlessly. It was a bit of leap of faith that first few times though. Will be interesting to figure out how much fuel it saves. But I can't help but wonder if negatively impacts the engine with all those increased starts and stops.

We have a Mariner hybrid and the engine restarts when you accelerate beyond what the electric motor can provide.
The engine on the Q starts when you lift your foot from the brake (as there is no electric motor -- unless you bought the hybrid of course). By the time you get to press the accelerator it's ready to go. I really liked it and would probably drive with it on most of the time.

While I love saving gas and emissions here is my problem with Start Stop. Since direct fuel injection "usually" leads to some type of carbon build-up over time - does the fact that it is start/stop not lead to a greater possibility of carbon build up? I am not sure but thought it made sense since I have read that during the starting of the engine you probably get the most carbon build up.

On an A5 site comments were made attributing some of the buildup to short distance driving and long periods of idling. Start-stop could address the idling issue at long stops.

I have a 2011 3.0; I get about 16-17 in the city and around 24-26 on the highway. I live in NYC and drive through a lot of stop and go in the city. But I've been on the highway and gotten readings as high as 32mpg, but that's if you're not going all that fast and traffic is pretty smooth.
I probably get a combined 22mpg overall because I don't drive that far in the city.
Keep in mind, it's a really comfortable ride to be in when you're stuck in traffic

My Q5 3.0T started off with 16.7 mpg on average when I first drove the car(it was at 92 miles odometer).
I now have 22.5 mpg in average after driving it for 400 miles according to the reading on the car dashboard. I heard dashboard mpg reading isn't really accurate though. I have driven in both city and highway in 35/65 ratio.
I don't push the car very much(trying to keep the rpm below 2500 while below 1000 miles on odometer).

To update my earlier comment, I'm now 6 days and 350 miles into my new 3.0t and averaging 23.5MPG. I live in the suburbs so no hardcore city driving. My commute is a little highway and several ~40mph roads. There are some stop lights and I keep stop/start enabled. I've also been light on the gas, trying not to rev too high during the break in period. So far I'm pretty happy to be averaging 23.5 with the 3.0t.
