Default When do you do your 1st oil change?

My mechanic recommended to do 1st oil change at 1000 miles -only after I told him we bought not leased the Q5. He also advised me against ceramic brake pads, so I feel I can trust his judgement on the first oil change.

Any thoughts?

What was his justification on no ceramic pads?

I plan on waiting till 5k for the first service.

1000 ? he is trying to get himself business...or at least it sounds like it. synthetic oil lasts much much longer. in fact the car is programmed to warn you when the service is due...that's when you change your oil as well.

I did my own at 1500 miles on the RS. And then every 5K miles or 6 months later (If Audi did not pay for it as part of service) then I did my own. Same for the 98' A4 and the Lexus

in Europe, the manual says 15.000 km (+- 9375 miles) or 1 year, first to come.
with the high quality (and price) of the Audi/VW oil, I don't see why I should service the car earlier

First oil change is debatable as from one perspective, small metal particles and junk from "break-in" should be washed away after first 500-1000 miles. On other hand, one could argue that oil filter is there to clean the mess...

I did early oil change on my bike but did not on Q5...

I think its time to get a new mechanic, yours is from the old school. Today's engines are built to a much tighter torlarance, there is very little metal shaving to justify changing the oil at 1000 miles. Also, tell your mechanical that Audi use a break in oil, you are suppose to leave it in there for 5000 miles for a proper break in.

I would wait until the car tells you to do so or at 1 year mark, whichever is sooner. I did the same with my 135i - no problems, yet many people still change it out early.
