I bought a 2014 Audi Q5 TDI premium plus with 20" summer performance tires. My question is for winter tire replacement. Is it possible to put 16 inch steel rim+ tires for Audi Q5. The service representative at dealer was not sure whether the brake calipers would accomodate 16 inch wheels for Q5. I am looking at 16 inch to get as much as increase in sidewalls as possible. He told that I could go with 17inch rim + tire package from them for close to $3000 for all inclusive package of installing and balancing it. Seems little pricy. Should I go with tirerack.com or STS tires to do the same job for winter rim/tire package?
Any recommendation/suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks.

I am running a 20 inch snow tire on my SQ5. I think a 16 is a little overkill of rubber. I would run no less than a 17. I would recommend a nice wheel, steel wheels seem so 1995 Honda to me. You could spend less than $2000 on a nice set up from tire rack. My Hartmanns and 20 inch blizzaks were around $2300 mounted.

The minimum dimension that fits to Q5 to 17" -- 235/65 R 17
Try with Hartman wheels have excellent price-quality ratio

Downsizing rim diameter is a smart move for winter tires; narrower tire face; higher sidewall profile; makes for much better contact of the tire to road surface in snowy/slushy road conditions.
I'd go tire rack. Good prices; Everything comes mounted and balanced. I've had great luck with them over the years. I'd do 17's or 18's if I were to be doing this. Just try to get your overall wheel diameter as close as you can to the original stock 20's.

Tire Rack raises this note for my Q5 TDI premium plus - (Does Dealer needs to reset TPMS or do some configuration - reading the forum I feel it is passive TPMS). Do I get the rim+tire+TPMS installed from tirerack.com AND reset the TPMS on Audi?

The wheel size does not match the selected vehicle's O.E. tire size. To find matching tires select the "Add to Cart and Shop for Tires" button.
This vehicle relies on the wheel speed sensors in the hubs to monitor the tire pressure differences. Although no tire sensors are required, a TPMS reset is required so the vehicle learns the new tire overall diameters.

I don't understand where 16in rims come into your thoughts. Audi do packages on 17 and 18 inch rims. I run all season latitude cross on 18in rims, fit my needs, ride is still on the firm side, think they're great and unusual on the Q5. Those with 20in rims ouch, need to avoid all the potholes in our roads. Then they slip about on anything other than tarmac.

No need to worry/fuss about the 16" wheel set up. It doesn't fit the vehicle in question.

I ordered a set of 18" rials. Running 235 width tires on the 18" rim. Not sure if the aspect is 55 or 60.
They fit fine, ride well and perform nicely as a winter setup.

I found this from audi dealers for winter package on Q5. The audi parts site gives this package description -

Does Q5W17D004 apply to 2014 Q5 TDI?
